Exhibit Description
In Our Family is a museum-quality traveling photo-text exhibit
about twenty families
representing a breadth of diversity and family configurations including:
adoptive and foster families; divorced and stepfamilies, single parent households,
multiracial families, families facing chronic illness and death; families
living with mental and physical disabilities; lesbian and gay-parented families;
interfaith families, multigenerational households, and immigrant families.
Designed for audiences of all ages - from early childhood to adults - In Our Family challenges stereotypes and helps dismantle prejudice by celebrating and
affirming differences of all kinds. The traveling photo-text rental exhibit consists of ready-to-hang framed photographs and text (including special K-2 text you can use
for younger viewers). The positive and realistic photographs, along with the
candid interviews with family members of all ages, affirm an inclusive and
expansive vision of family life today.
Curriculum Guide
This traveling exhibit was used as the centerpiece
in the creation of an integrated model curriculum on diversity at a public
middle school, and we have just published a 200 page Curriculum/Resource Guide
for use in schools (K-12) and for staff training.

"Your exhibit, In Our Family, is getting rave reviews at Lockheed Martin! I believe it is more than anyone had expected and such a refreshing change of pace and perspective here! With the help of your exhibit our cultural awareness committee has really met our objectives and accomplished an overall positive affect, educational awareness, and open and inclusive environment that all employees are happier working at! Thank you so much for providing us this opportunity!"
- Abigail Francisco

"Thank you for a wonderful catalyst. Please accept our deepest appreciation
for all you have done and continue to do for equity and justice."
- Karen Laiz
Shore Country Day School

It is my belief that family, being an issue that we can all relate to (though of course in very different ways), is a great starting point for dealing with such issues as homophobia, racism, ableism and xenophobia in general. Your exhibit provides an excellent catalyst for discussions that take these issues head on.
- William Barrett
Daniel Webster Middle School
Los Angeles, CA
"In Our Family presents the human faces behind news stories and statistics. Every time someone blazes a
trail or faces a challenge, their entire family is affected, sometimes for generations. I admired the
strength and courage of those families coping with illness, disability and prejudice. People in our company found themselves themselves in the photos and stories. People who have worked together for years talked about their own families for the first time."
- Apple Computer, Inc. Employee
"Our vision was that having the exhibit In Our Family at our school would strengthen our community
and assure that everyone felt respected. It is a wonderful thing to see a vision realized. This has
been an incredible experience of hearing each others stories and growing closer...I would highly
recommend that every school in the country have this exhibit as a way of opening communication and
teaching respect for all. Everyone comes away with the heartwarming message that it is love that
binds us together. It is pretty hard to hate someone whose life has touched yours."
- Tessa Gaddis
Librarian, Marin Country Day School
Corte Madera, CA
"Diversity within emerging families is becoming more and more common. In
order to increase awareness and acceptance, our Campus Environment Team at Penn
State sponsored In Our Family.
This exhibit is designed for people to learn to
value difference instead of looking at it in a negative way."
- Christyne Berzsenyi
Faculty, Penn State University
"We displayed the In Our Family exhibit for an entire month. We believe that
every child and family should feel safe, respected, and supported in our
school. Exposing children at all ages to difference is an important way to combat
prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination. I would be happy to speak to
anyone considering bringing this exhibit to their school."
- Gloria Fernandez-Tearte
Director of Admission and Diversity
Greenwich Academy, Greenwich, CT
"I would like to express the fact that I was overjoyed when the In Our Family
exhibit arrived. Everything was so well organized and easy to put up. In Our Family was a great way for the Diversity Committee to send a positive
message to our employees about today's diverse family. It is very informational as
well as a very sophisticated exhibit. I would encourage other companies to
bring this exhibit to their workplaces."
- Coral Ten Fingers
SAFECO Property and Casualty Insurance Companies
"The informative In Our Family photo-text exhibit was displayed during the DuPont Pharmaceutical
Workforce Inclusion Day as a tool to help our work environment move from diversity to inclusion.
Our aim is to make DuPont the best workplace on the planet. The exhibit provided a low-cost addition
to our corporate program. Best of all, we only had to hang the exhibit on the walls and it silently
spoke volumes."
- Kathleen Schmidt
DuPont Pharmaceuticals
Wilmington DE
"As Chief Diversity Officer of the Chubb Corporation, it is my responsibility to ensure that we continue
to find ways to build a culture of inclusion. One of our initiatives this year that helped to further this
goal was our sponsorship of the In Our Family exhibit. Employees in our worldwide corporate office
received this exhibit very well. "
- Joel M. Tealer
Vice-President, Chief Diversity Officer
The Chubb Corporation
